And the winner is...

ME! I did it! I finished my nursing assistant course. And for everyone who may not be aware, what that means is that I did the following over the course of three short (yet oh, so long) weeks: sat through approximately 30 hours of classroom lecture, spent approximately 50 hours in the trenches of the local nursing home doing hands-on clinicals, took 9 tests and got the highest score in the class on every single one of them, thank you very much (yup, I'm quick to point that out every chance I get), and ended with a 99 on my final exam and a 98 overall for the class. Yup, that's right, the highest in the class. GO ME!!!

This is my pal Wendy. She let me do icky things to her like practice wiping her bottom and swabbing out her mouth and sticking a bedpan under her bum in just the right place. Isn't she a great guinea pig? And dontcha just love the look of horror on her face? I do! That's the face I would see every morning when I walked into the classroom. Gosh, I'll miss ol' Wendy.

Now, I've said this a hundred times and some may even be sick of hearing it, but one more time: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to my wonderful friends and family who absolutely made this accomplishment possible for me. When I think about how quickly and unselfishly everyone jumped in to help with...well...everything from kid-sitting to the support I needed to keep from going absolutely mental...let's just say I get a little teary eyed and choked up. Nuff said. I love you all. If any of you ever need your vital signs taken or need help getting to the toilet, you know who to call. I'm here for YOU.

Congrats! You've got way more dedication than I ever had. If I went back to be a CNA I'd take the 'as long as I pass' mentality (C's get degrees!!!)

Way to go! I'm so glad you made it through, and with flying colors. :)

Beth and I were just wondering about you and this very subject. Congratulations! I love Wendy's terrified look, but I did have to look twice to see if that wasn't a real old person, and honestly, the only giveaway is that the inside of her mouth is the same as the rest of her face. Otherwise she looks like a granny in a nursing home - wig and all!

On a more serious note, we are all so proud of you. Way to stick with it. You are an inspiration! Love you!

Jace I am so happy for you!! And I'm with Jenna - Wendy is just a little too real-looking...it makes me kind of uncomstable. I think the fact that you worked with her everyday is something to be proud of in itself! Seriously though, I am so proud of you and admire you for sticking to it!!! Love you!!

WooHoo JITTJ and Wendy!!!

It looks like you goosed Wendy when wiping her bottom. So how did you practice wiping her bottom? Did they put chocolate pudding on it or something? Just curious.

I worked in a nursing home before and I loved it. Of course you have your favorites, that makes it all worth while. Very proud of you, you will be a great CNA!!!

Oh, and I want to congratulate you on being so humble . . . such a rare quality these days. ;)

Yes, Kristi, I did actually have a few favorites. I didn't think I'd get attached to anyone, but there were some sweet, funny, even foul-mouthed ones that just got to me! I'll be taking my kids back to visit there soon. I know the older folks always cheer up with a visit from little kids. And did my less-than-humble remarks really surprise you all that much? No. I didn't think so. One more thing: thank you for ruining chocolate pudding for me forever.

Congrats, Jacey! As if anyone suspected you would do anything other than perfectly! Especially those of us who dropped by unexpectedly and your house is STILL clean!!

When did you drop by my house unexpectedly? I don't remember that. But then again, the last 3 or 4 weeks are pretty much a fog. Also, my floors have not been mopped in weeks. Don't talk to me about clean!
